Shih Chun-Mao, known by his pseudonyms Da-Gang and Qiu-Shi, also goes by his stylized name, Zi-Xin. His journey in calligraphy was shaped under the guidance of notable teachers, including Chen Zi-He (1910-1984), Wang Bei- Yue (1926-2006), and Wu Shiue-Fan (1921-). He also delved into Western painting under the mentorship of Li Shih-Chiao (1908-1995) and Shiy De-Jinn (1923-1981).
Shih Chun-Mao’s commitment to advancing calligraphy education is evident in his initiatives, such as authoring the “National Character Standard Table,” creating the ” Education and Culture Television Program – Regular Script Lectures” series on Chinese Television System and producing demonstration videos of calligraphy teaching materials for elementary schools of Taipei. In recognition of his contributions, he has received the Taipei City Certificate of Excellence in Chinese Language Education, the Excellent Teacher Award in Calligraphy Education, and the Taipei City Calligraphy Education Outstanding Award. Furthermore, Shih Chun-Mao has also served as an adjudicator in numerous art exhibitions in various cities of Taiwan . Moreover, Shih has been actively involved in the editing and reviewing committee for calligraphy textbooks at the National Institute for Compilation and Translation and has previously served as the chairman of the Calligraphy Education Society of the Republic of China.
He is the author of Shih Chun-Mao Linjiu Cheng Gong Li Quan Ming (1993), Calligraphy Textbooks and Exercises I-VIII (1995), Shih Chun-Mao’s portfolio of Spring Couplets Collection I-II (1996), Shih Chun-Mao Poetry Reading and writing Collection I-V (1995-2000), Shih Chun-Mao’s portfolio of calligraphy (1998), and Selected Calligraphy Works of Shih Chun-Mao: From Emulating Traditional Classics to Reinvent Contemporary Calligraphy Art (2019).
